Diploma of Sport and Recreation

Business Electives  /  Equestrian Electives  /  Equestrian Coaching Electives

The Diploma of Sport and Recreation provides training in the knowledge, practical application and experience for the participant to function effectively in a sport and recreation business environment.

Students completing the business electives, can successfully enter into administrative positions directly related tot the delivery of sport and recreation programs. They may also gain employment in lower to middle management, providing the first step towards working as part of a senior management team.

The Equestrian and Equestrian Coaching electives provide the training for the participant to specialise in the equestrian environment, including the management of riding schools, equestrian centres and other equine establishments.

 (With Business Electives) -

 

Content
   Diploma of Sport and Recreation gives students the knowledge to take management-type while working within the sport and recreation industry.
 
The Core units for this course are - manage meetings, market services and concepts to internal customers, manage people performance, manage environmental performance, determine needs of client populations, promote compliance, with laws and legal principles, manage culture and education to expand participation in a leisure and recreation service, foster the values and ethos of the phenomenon of play, manage evolving patterns of work to expand participation in a leisure and recreation service, manage projects, establish maintain and evaluate the organisations Occupation Health and Safety system, manage an organisations risk.
 
Any one of the following specialisations may be included - facilities, finance, general administration, human resources, marketing, recreation.
 
Electives are also required and may include - manage the establishment and maintenance of a workgroup network, plan and manage conferences, manage payroll, develop teams and individuals, analyse and present research information, promote innovation and change, manage recruitment selection and induction processes, manage and monitor business or records systems, market services and concepts to internal customers, manage people performance, prepare budgets and financial plans, recruit, select and induct staff, manage separation/termination, manage workplace information systems

   English language
      - IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent)
 
   Educational Qualifications
      - Grade 12 (or equivalent)
 
   Equestrian Experience
      - No previous equestrian experience is required for this course
 
If the pre-requisites are not met, a longer course may be offered

- Diploma of Sport and Recreation

(With Equestrian Electives) -

 

Content
   Diploma of Sport and Recreation with equestrian electives gives students the knowledge to take more responsibility while working within the sport of riding or the business of a recreational riding school.
 
The Core units for this course are - manage meetings, market services and concepts to internal customers, manage people performance, manage environmental performance, determine needs of client populations, promote compliance, with laws and legal principles, manage culture and education to expand participation in a leisure and recreation service, foster the values and ethos of the phenomenon of play, manage evolving patterns of work to expand participation in a leisure and recreation service, manage projects, establish maintain and evaluate the organisations Occupation Health and Safety system, manage an organisations risk.
 
Any one of the following specialisations may be included - facilities, finance, general administration, human resources, marketing, recreation.
 
Electives are required and may include - demonstrate basic dressage showjumping and cross country riding and teach the fundamental skills of riding as well as other coaching and equestrian related units

   Educational Qualifications

      - Students should be able to walk, trot and canter up and down hills as well as jump up to 70cm
        style in good before they enrol in this course

- Diploma of Sport and Recreation

(With Equestrian Coaching Electives) -

 

Content
   Diploma of Sport and Recreation with equestrian electives gives students the knowledge to take more responsibility while working within the sport of riding or the business of a recreational riding school.
 
The Core units for this course are - manage meetings, market services and concepts to internal customers, manage people performance, manage environmental performance, determine needs of client populations, promote compliance, with laws and legal principles, manage culture and education to expand participation in a leisure and recreation service, foster the values and ethos of the phenomenon of play, manage evolving patterns of work to expand participation in a leisure and recreation service, manage projects, establish maintain and evaluate the organisations Occupation Health and Safety system, manage an organisations risk.
 
Electives may include - Precent and treat equine injury and disease, determine nutritional requirements for horse, plan conditioning and training programs for horses, teach the intermediate skills of riding on the flat (including riding on the flat), teach the intermediate skills of riding over fences (including riding over fences), demonstrate basic dressage showjumping and cross country riding and teach the fundamental skills of riding as well as other coaching and equestrian related units
